Volunteering

We are very grateful to all our volunteers who help us in so many different ways.

Our volunteers make a major difference to our work. Volunteers with a wide range of skills regularly give up their time to help us and their support is invaluable.

We have many different volunteering opportunities which include helping in our tearooms, shops or offices, at our events or on our summer trips in Romania.

The time commitment can involve a regular commitment or a very flexible approach. We will do our best to find a role that suits your skills, interests and availability and that you find rewarding and fulfilling.

Volunteering can be for a fixed term. We often have roles available for students during the summer holidays or pursuing Duke of Edinburgh award schemes.

As part of our volunteer team running summer trips, you will be helping some of the most forgotten and overlooked children in Europe.

Purpose of the trip

Our Summer Trips provide a much-needed break for children cared for by our country partner, Hospice Casa Sperantei in Romania. They are a great opportunity for volunteers to witness and be involved with our charitable work in bringing joy to the children, their siblings and family.

Children you’ll be helping

As a volunteer, you’ll be interacting with three different groups of children on the trips.

  • Some are affected by rare, life-limiting or terminal illness and their parents accompany them on the trip.
  • Others have experienced trauma through the death of a close relative.
  • The final group of children who attend are relatives of patients in our care. The children who benefit from our trips are often completely neglected by health care and social services systems.

Our Summer Trips are an opportunity for them to relax, have fun, share stories and find comfort in one another, all the while giving the accompanying adolescents and adults unique experience that they can take with them into their personal and professional life.

Volunteer experience

As a volunteer, you will have a number of fun-filled days interacting with the children, with previous activities ranging from archery, film-nights, drama evenings, and beach days.

Plus, volunteers will be treated to guided tours – including one of the nearby city they chose to volunteer in – and have a number of free days where they are free to spend it as they choose.

Insight Trips

Each year we run Insight Trips to show our supporters some of our work. If you would be interested in seeing our work first-hand but do not wish to volunteer this is a good way of doing this. Our 2024 insight trip is to Moldova. Find out more here.

Individual Trips

There may be opportunities from time to time for individuals or groups to volunteer to help in one of the countries where we work. This might be of interest to medical professionals or a team willing to carry out some manual work.

A trip of this type may be suitable for companies looking to team build through a corporate social responsibility project. Individual trips would be on a bespoke basis so please contact us to discuss possible options.
