Summer trips and volunteering in the office

Hi, my name is John and I have been volunteering for Hospice since 2015.

I first heard about Hospices of Hope at my local church through close friends who had been on some of the Hospice’s summer trips. As I learnt more about what the charity did, I decided to see what I could do to help.

In 2015 I volunteered for Hospices of Hope in Romania, helping to organise activities and games for some of Romania’s most disadvantaged children on the Bucharest Summer Camp. Having seen first-hand the phenomenal difference that the work of Hospice makes to so many in Romania during my visit, I volunteered again on the Brasov Summer Camp in 2016 and am now currently working as an intern in their offices in Otford.

Volunteering both in Romania and in their offices has been a great experience, and really fun as well. Through volunteering, I have met and been able to work with some amazing people both in Romania and in the UK. I have also learned lots of new skills and been able to increase my knowledge of how organisations such as Hospice work.

Volunteering in Romania was an experience I will never forget and will definitely be doing again. It is wonderful to spend time with the children during the summer camps and I feel privileged that I had the chance to do so. Working in their offices in Otford is a great experience as well. Everyone is really friendly and welcoming and it’s a lovely warm atmosphere to work in.  Volunteering for Hospice is a brilliant experience and something I would recommend for everyone to do!
