Hospices of Hope Moldova – an update

In 2016 we started work to establish a national network of hospices in Moldova.

We now have 5 hospices within that network which are distributed throughout the country.

Hospices supported in Moldova

Funding provided by the Bristol Myers Squibb Foundation and Medicor has greatly strengthened the sustainability of these hospice organisations and has given them a brighter future. Since June 2018 when the BMS project started we have ensured that there are hospice services available in the north, north-east, centre and south of the country.

The Fundraising Team in Moldova has been very busy. The team held a Gala Dinner in September.

The theme was sakura (cherry blossom) and the event was supported by the Japanese Embassy and the Moldo-Japanese Relations Foundation. Entertainment included traditional Japanese dance and calligraphy.

The team also held a Thank You Reception just before Christmas. The event thanked the many people who had helped HOHM since it was established in 2016.

The first fundraising event in Albania

As reported in our last Newsletter we have started supporting hospice organisation, Ryder Albania and we have received our first donation from a fundraising event.

Students in Year 3 from the Albanian College held a sports event called KickOffCancer. The students planned the event and produced the campaign materials themselves. They asked people in their community to sponsor them and had a huge amount of local support.

Before the event, Hospices of Hope Albania’s team and Doctor Fabian from Ryder Albania met the students and told them about the need for hospice care.

KickOffCancer raised over 1,050 euros that will support the home care services provided by Ryder Albania in Durres.
