Gala Dinner

This year's Gala Dinner was the most successful to date. It was held in the beautiful rooftop conservatory at the Millennium Gloucester Hotel in Kensington. As the event was two days before the royal wedding our theme was a Royal Celebration. Romanian model and actress Madalina Ghenea acted as MC and very gifted students from Trinity School in Croydon provided wonderful musical entertainment. Former Bond Girl, Nadja Regin, told the audience that the new hospice centre was greatly needed in her native Serbia.

More than £32,000 was raised on the night. £9,000 will go towards a nurse's salary in Romania and the balance will be divided between the Copaceni House Warming Appeal and the Serbian Hospice Centre.

A huge thank you to everyone who contributed so generously to this event.

Ladies Lunch, Glasgow

We held a very successful Ladies Lunch at the Mediterraneo Italiam Restaurant in Glasgow on Saturday 16th June. The event was hosted by Clude Radio DJ, Gina McKie and the guest speaker was Joan Robertson from JL Formulations who gave her expert advice on skincare. The event raised an amazing total of £600.

We would like to say a special thank you to Mrs Beatrice Nicholas for organising the event, as well as to all the ladies who attended and gave so generously on the day. A fun afternoon was had by all. The next lunch in Scotland is on Friday 7th December.

Peter Firmin

We were sorry to hear about the death of Peter Firmin. He and Oliver Postgate have been great supporters of Hospices of Hope. Together they created many characters including the much loved Bagpuss. We have a Bagpuss Ward in the hospice in Brasov and Emily Firmin opened the ward for us.

Peter and Oliver gave us the rights to use Bagpuss' name and likeness to help raise funds. As you will see from our Christmas Card leaflet we continue to do this.
