Hospices of Hope, Scotland

Fundraising events

Last year we held some excellent fundraising events in Scotland including our series of ladies lunches with some amazing guest speakers and demonstrations, a fun quiz night and an opera dinner – to name a few.

New Charity Shop

We were delighted that the Lord Provost of Edinburgh opened our new charity shop on South Clerk Street in Edinburgh. The shop opened in August and is already very popular.

Dr Jo Hockley’s Walk

In April, Trustee, Dr Jo Hockley, along with friends Sally Hockley, Karyn Wilson-Costa and Erna Haraldsdottir, walked the St Cuthbert’s Way (from Melrose to Lindisfarne) in support of Hospices of Hope. The walk lasted 5 days and was 100 kilometres long. The ladies raised over £3,200 for Hospices of Hope. An incredible achievement!

Scottish Patron – Mr. Gordon MacKinlay OBE

We were honoured that our Scottish Charity Patron, paediatric surgeon Mr. Gordon MacKinlay, was able to attend the opening of our Children’s Centre in Copaceni, Romania. During Gordon’s visit to the country, he delivered a series of lectures to our medical teams in Brasov and Bucharest. We are very grateful to Mr. MacKinlay for supporting the charity in this way.

Opera Dinner – Stewart’s Melville College

We had a wonderful evening at Stewart’s Melville College in November with a special performance from Ancuta Nite and Neil Latchman. They were joined by the ESMS Chamber Choir, who quite simply wowed us all! Our Founder, Graham Perolls, presented the 2018 ‘Hospice Champion Award’ to Ancuta and Quintin Doyle.  Ancuta and Quintin organised a series of 20 musical concerts in their home throughout 2018 to raise money for Hospices of Hope.

Summer Trips to Romania

A fabulous group of enthusiastic students from Linlithgow Academy joined our Brasov Holiday Club in Romania.  They said “The Brasov Holiday Club was the highlight of our summer and is an experience we will never forget!”  If you are considering volunteering, the application process for our 2019 Summer Trips is now open.
