Operations Officer

I joined Hospices of Hope in late 2017 as Operations Officer to assist the team in ensuring that a wide range of operational aspects of the charity run efficiently including oversight of our facilities, office management, building maintenance, IT support, general compliance with legislation and may other things!

Back in 2001 my wife and I travelled to Iasi, Romania as missionary workers, initially thinking we would be supporting a British couple for about 6 months with some of the work they were involved in with underprivileged children. In fact, we stayed for nearly 2 years, and during that time fell in love with the country and its people.

Moving back to the UK in early 2003 I took a role with a Kent-based charity, which runs a number of residential treatment programmes for men and women suffering from addiction to drugs and/or alcohol. Initially I worked within one of the projects as Deputy Manager before moving to the Head Office and undertaking several different roles, the last of which was as a Residential Recovery Services Manager for a number of years. As a member of the Senior Management Team I was responsible for helping to develop, promote, deliver and audit all current residential recovery services provided by charity and providing operational management and leadership to 5 managers of the residential projects.

Outside of work I am pretty busy with family life- we have 5 children (ranging from 16-4 years old).  I sit on the board of Trustees for a small Romanian charity, the Centre of Hope in Dorohoi, Romania (since 2009). With this role I provide strategic development and management support to the staff and help to ensure the organisations are viable and sustainable. In addition to these I have recently taken on the role of Foundation Governor at a local primary school.

I was really excited to be join the Hospices of Hope team and see it as being a real privilege to be a small part of the life changing work that we’re involved with. I have followed the amazing work the charity does for many years and from the point of first hearing about it hoped that one day I would get the opportunity to be a part of it!
