Hi, I'm Jenny. I was Graham’s first PA in 2000 when he was still working as a volunteer for the Romanian Appeal.

I trained as a nurse at St Thomas’ Hospital and then spent two years at the Children’s Hospital in Vancouver returning to St Thomas’ and becoming a Ward Sister. In 1971 I joined St Christopher’s Hospice working as a Ward Sister, then PA to Dame Cicely Saunders, two Matrons and the Senior Chaplain.  After very nearly 30 years I was made redundant. Throughout this time at St Christopher’s I had known Dr Mary Baines and she introduced me to Graham.

I remember when David Taylor (the Fund Raiser) and I worked in a small office above the Tea Shop and Antique Shop in Otford. Graham had a desk at one end of a small corridor next door and at the other end was the desk top photocopier. I had to photocopy all the Newsletters and unfortunately this once coincided with one of the few occasions that Graham was able to come over to the office. After some time I said ‘I’m so sorry if the photocopier is disturbing you.’ He looked up, smiled and said ‘Jenny, I have five children.’

The members of the Romanian Team that I met and worked with were all inspirational. With enormous good humour they managed continually to overcome staggering obstacles. It was always a joy and privilege to spend time with them in Brasov.
