We have an active fundraising team in Scotland which holds several events a year. We also have two shops in Edinburgh - one in Stockbridge and the other in Gorgie.  Here are some of our events and fundraising activities in Scotland.

Serbia Appeal

There are some close historical links between Scotland and Serbia. In the First World War a number of Scottish female nurses and doctors travelled to Serbia to help the situation over there. Serbia was the first country to be invaded by the Austrian-Prussian army and suffered terribly. Serbia still celebrates the contribution made by some of these women.

One lady, Dr Elsie Inglis, helped establish the Scottish Women's Hospitals for Foreign Service Committee which aimed to provide relief hospitals staffed by women. It sent a team to Serbia and Elsie worked in Serbia focussing particularly on improving hygiene to reduce the spread of typhus. She was awarded the Order of the White Eagle (V class) by the Crown Prince Alexander of Serbia at a ceremony in London and was the first woman to receive this honour.

We want to continue those links between Scotland and Serbia and Elsie's descendants have visited Serbia to see the work on our new hospice over there. Elsie will be remembered by us as a ward in the new hospice will be named after her.

Hospices of Hope in Scotland is raising money to pay for the costs of the Dr Elsie Inglis Ward. Some of the proceeds from this year's Edinburgh Ball will go towards this Ward (the rest going to Romania and Moldova). If you would like to donate to this Ward please contact [email protected]

The Ward will recognise the specific donation given by our Scottish supporters in much the same way Camera Scotiana (the Scottish Room) did in the new Bucharest Hospice.

Edinburgh Ball

Following the success of 2016's Silver Ball which raised over £20,000 we are again holding our Edinburgh Ball at Prestonfield House. We believe our 2017 black tie event will be even better this year with great food, wine and entertainment. This year’s ball will be raising funds for the new hospice in Serbia and for our services in Romania and Moldova. Tickets cost £85 per person.

Ladies Lunch

Step out of Edinburgh and into Paris at this year’s Christmas Ladies Lunch! We will be joined by Edinburgh business-woman Rachel Hanretty, the founder of Mademoiselle Macaron, a beautiful French-style Patisserie and tea salon on Grindlay Street. From small beginnings selling just a few macarons in local food markets, Mademoiselle Macaron now supplies Harvey Nichols. As well as hearing top macaron making tips from the Mademoiselle herself, Rachel will share with us the journey she has taken as a graduate caught up in the effects of the financial crash and a Parisian dream, to the young female business owner she is today. From dealing with epilepsy to negative stereotypes in business, Rachel hopes to encourage women to go for what they want with some entertaining anecdotes and advice along the way.

This Lunch is at the Hilton Edinburgh Carlton Hotel on Thursday 9th November at 12:00 noon with lunch followed by Rachel's macaron demonstration.
