This summer I will be volunteering with Hospices of Hope to provide a week of 'respite' care for children who have been bereaved or have a family member being cared for at the hospice and are therefore care givers from a young age.

The children who come on these trips are often completely neglected in the Romanian health care and social services systems. The Summer Trips are an opportunity for them to relax, have fun, share stories, be children again and find comfort in one another.

The Brasov Summer Camp provides a much needed break for these children and the charity asks each volunteer to fundraise a minimum of £700 which will cover the cost of 5 children attending this trip they so desperately deserve. One child last year said:

"It’s difficult to put into words what it meant for me to have the possibility to go on a Summer Camp organised by Hospices of Hope. I was extremely impressed with all the activities. Everything was well organised so we could have a fantastic time and forget about our troubles at home. To see everyone laughing and all the happiness in their eyes, it was priceless. These memories we will treasure forever."
