This summer I will be returning to volunteer with Hospices of Hope to provide a week of 'respite' care for children who are suffering from a rare or life-limiting illness and their families who have to cope with the situation on a day to day basis.

The children who come on these trips are often completely neglected in the Romanian health care and social services systems. The Summer Trips are an opportunity for them to relax, have fun, share stories and find comfort in one another.

The Seaside Club provides a much needed break for the children and their families. The charity asks each volunteer to fundraise £700 which will cover the cost of 5 families attending this trip they so desperately deserve. One family last year said:

"All I can say is, Thank you and it was sensational! Our family needed a vacation and of course I couldn’t afford it but thanks to you, the people from hospice, my kids saw the seaside for the first time. The location was, as my little son said: “We arrived in paradise!”. Thank you for all the dedication of the people involved in this club! We felt like we were part of a big family full of love, joy, fun, appreciation, and the list of my feelings could go on. Also, we would like to thank the British volunteers who got involved with their hearts and souls. You brought joy to our children, by playing different games with them and making them feel accepted"
