Inspired by the 1984 Summer Olympic Games which was held in the city, this 26.219 mile race has been held every year since 1986 and celebrates the power of sport to bring us together and achieve our goals. Our team of 15 people ran the event to raise funds for our vital work developing technology to improve the lives of the terminally and seriously ill in Eastern Europe, the US and the wider world. The money raised through their effort will go towards supporting investment in tech for palliative care and projects like the Copaceni center: a ground-breaking facility for seriously ill children and their families in Romania. The Hospices of Hope team of 15 included Cristian Ilie, Constinela Dragan, Lyle Anderson and our CEO, Alex Padureanu who we’ve recently interviewed on our blog, focusing on what inspired them to run the marathon. It was our 3rd time running in the LA Marathon and we were so honored to be selected to take part in it. Lots of charities apply each year but only a few are selected and not all of them get such great spots at such a famous race! Right after the race, Alex commented: “We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all of the supporters and organizers who made the day such a success. We’d also like to send our special thanks to every one of the participants who ran for us. Your passion, dedication and determination is an inspiration to us all.” The LA Marathon is probably one of the best in the world in terms of its versatile terrain and sites. The course of the marathon gives runners a true experience of LA. The Stadium to the Sea route takes runners from the world’s third-oldest ballpark, Dodger Stadium through to Sunset Boulevard, Beverley Hills and even a section of Route 66, to a beautiful finish line just a stone’s throw away from the Santa Monica Pier. With a net elevation drop of 430 feet, it’s a varied course, testing experienced runners and new-comers alike. We had a fantastic day – well done everyone! Developing technology to improve care for the terminally and seriously ill, Hospices of Hope is transforming healthcare in some of the poorest areas of Eastern Europe— where access to vital care or facilities can be very challenging. It’s not only Eastern Europe that benefits though our work though. The advanced technology that we’re developing here has benefits for the USA and the entire world too.
