“Bagpuss, dear Bagpuss, old cat furry catpuss”

Here at Hospices of Hope, we love Bagpuss!

Our Bagpuss Children’s Wing in Brasov was opened in 2002, thanks to a £150,000 donation from Oliver Postgate, the creator of Bagpuss.

Oliver was a great supporter of Hospices of Hope and when he passed away in December 2008, he and Peter gave us the right to use the Bagpuss name and character as he wanted to see “the saggy old cloth cat” continue to raise funds for our child patients.

We were also delighted that Emily Firmin, who played Emily in the Bagpuss series, travelled to Brasov to open the Bagpuss Children’s Wing.

Bagpuss at the London Landmarks

Bagpuss ran the 2019 London Landmarks Half Marathon to raise funds for the Bagpuss Children's Wing.

Despite the warm weather and very thick fur, the saggy old cloth cat ran the entire course and completed it in just over 3 hours. Lizzie and her team of supporters were there to cheer him on.

Meet Bagpuss at

The Bagpuss Children's Wing

The Bagpuss Children’s Wing in the Brasov Hospice cares for 150 children with terminal, rare or life-limiting illness.

The wing has six in-patient beds and is the base for many other services for children.

The children love to come to the day care centre where they can take part in activities and therapy sessions. Therapy includes physiotherapy (the sensory room is particularly popular), psychological counselling, occupational therapy and therapy through play and drama sessions.

Sadly many of the children are too ill to take part in these activities. The paediatric home care team supports them and their families in their homes.  In 2017 the team made 1,286 home care visits.

It costs in the region of £215,000 per year to keep the Bagpuss Children’s Wing running.

By supporting Team Bagpuss you will be helping to ensure these vital free of charge services continue.
