Getting involved with the charity

Being the youngest daughter of charity founder Graham Perolls, you might say I was born into the charity. After visiting Romania for the first time in my early teens and inspired by the work taking place there, at the age of 18 I decided to move to Romania and work for the hospice on a voluntary basis as their Volunteer & Fundraising Coordinator.

Soon after that, in 2011 I started working for the organisation in various roles, and recently became the Interim CEO.

A special memory

One patient that will always have a special place in my heart is Andrei. I got to know Andrei over 10 years and it was incredibly difficult watching him deteriorate every time I saw him. When he first came to hospice he was running around with other children but due to his condition muscular dystrophy he ended up in a wheelchair and was immobile from the neck down. However, it never stopped Andrei living life. He always got involved in every game, he was very happy for us to be his arms and legs. He learnt English so he could communicate with us. His Mum was always so grateful for the way hospice looked after her son and it meant everything to her. Her daughter Sabrina also attended the camps for siblings and she so appreciated the support and building friendships with kids going through the same situation as herself.
