Thanks to the generosity of our donors, sponsors and partners, more than 600 patients have been helped, approximately 40 people have received training in palliative care, 5 multidisciplinary mobile palliative care teams have received cars to visit their patients and more than 12.000 visits have been carried out. Also, we’ve managed to organize two Hospice Bike Tours, two charity Curry Challenges, three Run For Hope campaigns (Chisinau International Marathon and New York Marathon), two Quiz Nights, two ping pong tournaments, a bowling cup and a Gala Dinner. All in order to raise funds for palliative care services in the regions of Moldova. In April 2018, we launched the National Palliative Care Services Network Hospices of Hope Moldova. At the moment, the network consists of five multidisciplinary teams from Orhei, Soroca, Cahul, Taraclia and Ocnita districts, offering home palliative care services for free. All the teams, besides financial support, benefit from free trainings in palliative care, received cars for visiting the patients and have access to a shared resource center. The cars they received allowed them to double the number of visits, while the training in the different fields of palliative care helped them offer even better services to those in need.Trainings in palliative careIn 2018, we organized several trainings intended for the five mobile multidisciplinary teams part of the National Palliative Care Services Network Hospices of Hope Moldova.About 40 health care professionals (doctors, nurses, psychologists, etc) took part in the three following conferences and workshops, credited by the School of Public Health Management, which helped them share good practices, advance their knowledge in the field and thus help them provide ever better services:– Introduction in Palliative Care; – Forming in Palliative Care; – Pediatric Palliative Care Services (with the support of the International Children’s Palliative Care Network). Hospice Bike Tours 2017 & 2018In 2017 & 2018 we kept the tradition of organizing the #HospiceBikeTour, a cycling tour from Chisinau to one member organization of the Hospices of Hope international network, in Brasov or Bucharest. In 2017, 13 people cycled more than 700 KM during five days, from Chisinau to Iasi, Lake Bicaz, Miercurea Ciuc, Brasov, ending the tour at Hospice Casa Sperantei in Bucharest. This record was beaten in 2018, when 21 cyclists rode approximately 800 KM from Chisinau to Soroca, Iasi, Lake Bicaz, Sighisoara, ending the tour in Brasov. Approximately 22.000 EUR have been collected during these two editions of the #HospiceBikeTour. #RunForHope @Chisinau International Marathon & New York Marathon When autumn comes, thousands of people run on Chisinau’s streets at the Chisinau International Marathon. In recent years, a lot of them have decided to add even more value to their efforts by raising money for the Hospices of Hope Moldova cause. Each runner was asked to raise at least 100 EUR to help incurably ill people in the regions of Moldova, and to run their chosen distance. In 2017, we had 40 people running for Hospices of Hope Moldova, while in 2018 they were 45, managing to include corporate teams from StarNet Solutii and Promolex. The campaign have been successful in both years, raising several thousands of euro. Moreover, Oleg Pacaleu decided that the Chisinau Marathon was not enough for him, so he joined the biggest marathon in the world – the New York Marathon, which he completed on November the 4th. His purpose was even more ambitious, as he aimed to raise 1000 EUR – funds which would ensure medication costs for patients cared for by multidisciplinary palliative care teams in Ocnita, Orhei and Soroca regions for 1 month & transportation costs for all the teams for 2 months! You can still support him with a small donation here: https://www.hospicesofhope.co.uk/oleg-court-pour-les-malades-incurables-en-moldavie Read the full Hospices of Hope newsletter here!
