Team Bagpuss!

Here at Hospices of Hope, we love Bagpuss! Our Bagpuss Children’s Wing in Brasov was opened in 2002, thanks to a £150,000 donation from Oliver Postgate, the creator of Bagpuss.

Oliver was a great supporter of Hospices of Hope and when he passed away in December 2008, he gave us the right to use the Bagpuss name and character in our fundraising efforts.  He wanted to see “the saggy old cloth cat” continue to raise funds for our child patients.

We were also delighted that Emily Firmin, who played Emily in the Bagpuss series, travelled to Brasov to open the Bagpuss Children’s Wing and is in regular contact with the charity.

Team Bagpuss raises money for our child patients cared for in our Bagpuss ward, through sponsorship and sporting events (see below).

Why not join Team Bagpuss and take part in an event to raise money for our Children’s Wing in Brasov?  You could join us for one of the events below, or complete your own event on behalf of Hospices of Hope in a Team Bagpuss T-shirt.

Fancy something a bit different?  We have a 7-foot Bagpuss costume which you can wear whilst completing your event!
Please get in touch – we would love you to join Team Bagpuss and take him running all over the world!

Pictured right is Bagpuss runner James, who took part in the Bucharest International Marathon in a relay team and ran just over 6miles in the costume.

The iconic Virgin London Marathon is a truly amazing event and offers everything you could want from a race – a high quality course, enthusiastic charity runners and an inspiring and interesting route. Family, friends, television crews and, of course, Hospices of Hope gather to cheer on our amazing marathon runners… will you be one of them?

Unfortunately our 2017 place has been taken this year but if you were lucky enough to receive a yes in the ballot why not join us in Team Bagpuss!

Previous Hospice Champions

“Watching the London Marathon in 2014 I decided it had to be done once, I applied, got accepted and at 68, wondered what I’d done! Wanting to support Hospices of Hope in their amazing work in Romania and elsewhere, I offered friends, family etc the chance to donate. The day itself dawned grey and cool; standing on Blackheath before the start, cold, nervous and very much untrained; I feared a white elephant could occur. But the experience of so many cheery folk, the lovely music en route, the unity and feeling of common purpose… It was hauntingly magical. Try it yourself!”

“A very big THANK you for taking action and supporting me for the London Marathon. Despite my fibula fracture, I’ve succeeded in completing the whole run of 42.2 km. Even though it was not my first, it was definitely my hardest one, and that is because of my small accident. I am so grateful in having so many people around me ready to do something for the less fortunate ones, ready to act and make a change, no matter how small. Thank you so much for donating to Hospices of Hope.  I truly appreciate your generosity and I know they will use the money to continue their hard work in making every day count for terminally ill adults and children in Romania and surrounding countries.”

“When I was approached by Hospices of Hope to run The London Marathon several months ago, I said yes instantly! Having witnessed the incredible work they do first hand in Romania, I knew just how life-changing our donations would be to their terminally ill patients. Just £10 provides a patient with a full week of medication – what a difference we can all make! Any opportunity to help raise money – I’m there! I must admit, it has been a busy year, becoming an NQT and getting married (making training a little tricky), but the atmosphere and the overwhelming generosity of friends and family have made the experience one I will never forget! THANK YOU for making a difference. Thinking of running next year? Please consider running for Hospices of Hope!”
