The Bucharest Marathon
Sunday 18th October 2009
The marathon is the second one to be held in Bucharest and we are really privileged that our Romanian partner, Hospice Casa Sperantei, will be the main beneficiaries. We have made arrangements for a number of runners from the UK to take part in the marathon and raise further much-needed funds for the hospice work there. Our Deputy Director, James Niblett, who is currently spending three years in Bucharest as Hospice Campaign Director will also be running.
Hospices of Hope is a UK-registered charity and started pioneering hospice services in 1992 beginning in the Romanian region of Transylvania in the City of Brasov. We opened the first in-patient and training hospice in Brasov in 2002 caring for adults and children with terminal illnesses. We have since founded a hospice service in Bucharest, Romania’s capital and begun working in Belgrade, Serbia and Chisinau, Moldova. Our current appeal is to build an in-patient teaching hospice (similar to the one in Brasov) so we can better the level of care we currently give to our patients and as we have an increase in funds to be raised over the next few years, we do need your help.
We are asking runners for a minimum sponsorship of £500 and non-returnable deposit of £50. In return we have arranged a ‘Marathon Package’ for any UK runners taking part which will include:
· Guaranteed Marathon Entry
· Transport from airport to Hotel
· Lunch and refreshments on the marathon day
· Accommodation at either the Hilton Hotel or Intercontinental Hotel for up to 3 nights (Friday 16th, Saturday 17th, Sunday 18th)
· An optional training session and briefing about the charity in Otford, Kent with James. Two dates will be available in August.
· A running pack of T-shirt, sponsorship forms, and further charity information for friends and family.
Flights need to be arranged by each runner, but we can advise. Once in Romania, there is the option of a trip to Brasov to see the first hospice project first-hand.
We do hope we can raise vital funds for the hospice project and further the development of our care services to be available for more terminally ill adults and children.
If you would like to take part, please return the application form to me along with the (non-returnable) deposit of £50 so we can pay your marathon entry.
