Turn hurt into hope - can you leave a legacy?

Are you thinking of making a will or updating your existing will?
If so you may want to consider including a charitable donation in your will. If your estate is likely to attract inheritance tax then a charitable legacy can be a very tax efficient of making a donation. This is because the value of the gift will be deducted from your estate before inheritance tax is calculated. Gifts made before your death may also qualify for exemption.
In addition and looking to the future the government is keen to encourage charitable donations through legacies. The Chancellor, George Osborne, has said that he wants it to become the norm that people leave 10% of the contents of their wills to charity and he is planning to introduce a tax incentive scheme through the 2012 Finance Bill to encourage this. We understand the scheme will apply where an estate is subject to inheritance tax and at least 10% of the net estate is left to charity. The residue of the estate will then be subject to inheritance tax at a reduced rate (currently 36% rather than 40%).
More information can be found on the HMRC website. http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/tiin/tiin652.pdf This scheme is complex and, as with all forms of estate planning, we would recommend you seek professional advice.
Your special gift will allow us to continue in our vision.. of a future where all terminally ill patients in Romania and the surrounding countries are able to live and die with dignity as respected and valued members of their society.
