A memorable evening with an extraordinary Diva!
Having just returned to sing an outstanding Tosca at the Royal Opera Covent Garden, world-acclaimed soprano Nelly Miricioiu was incredibly generous to offer our friends and supporters a magical opera evening that has helped raise funds for our work in Romania and neighbouring countries. Her solo recital at the Southbank Centre in London was a true showcase for her formidable voice. Mixing famous arias by Giuseppe Verdi and Giaccomo Pucinni with songs by Romanian composers Nicolae Bretan and Tiberiu Brediceanu’s settings of texts by Mihai Eminescu, Nelly Miricioiu threw herself into the music and gave an outstanding performance to a charmed audience.

Accompanying her was the extremely talented young pianist Ancuta Nite who also performed well-loved pieces by Rachmaninov and Chopin. Nelly and Ancuta held the audience rapt for over two hours, accomplishing vocal and pianistic miracles of interpretation. The last encore, a Romanian song, gave the full measure of Nelly Miricioiu’s emotional surrender, speaking volumes about an artist who was giving something back for the talent she had received.
“In the theatre the play ends at the curtain call”, she later said, „but for the lives of terminally ill patients and their families the drama is very real and remains part of their everyday experience.”
We extend our heartfelt thanks to Nelly Miricioiu and Ancuta Nite for putting talent, effort and time into a cause we are so passionate about - making every day count for the terminally ill adults and children of Southeastern Europe. A big thank you to all those who joined us on that memorable evening! It is because of you that we are able to continue our work.
