Digby, Lord Jones of Birmingham Kt gives keynote speech at our annual City Dinner....
On a Thursday evening in March over 100 business men and women joined us at the Royal Automobile Club in Pall Mall for our annual City Dinner. Given the pre-occupation of so many of us with the current economic climate this was an amazing turnout.
We were delighted that Lord Jones, our patron, had agreed to give the keynote address and this undoubtedly explained the high attendance, particularly since his subject was "Life During and After The Recession"!
As always, Lord Jones was entertaining, thought provoking and insightful and delghted his audience with anecdotes from his recent time as a Government Minister. After reminding the audience that Britain was still a manufacturing country and reflecting on the negative obsessions of the media he went on to remind us that it was businesses that created wealth, employment and ultimately all tax revenue for the government.
He implored companies to invest in skills and training to ensure that we were fit to take advantage of all opportunities as we eventually climb out of recession. At the same time he reminded us all that with the creation of wealth came a responsibility to help and support those who can not help themselves.
We would like to repeat our sincere thanks to Lord Jones; our sponsors Sanders Polyfilms, Anglo-Romanian Bank and Canary Wharf plc; The Royal Automobile Club and all of our supporters and their guests who made it such a successful evening.
