Amundsen Omega 3 South Pole Race
How far would YOU go?
For city banker Christian Hillkirk the freezing temperatures we’ve had this winter probably feel like the beginning of spring. They surely can’t compete with lows of -46 degrees Celsius! This is what he endured for 20 days and 9 hours as he raced over 430 nautical miles to the geographic South Pole.
Christian Hillkirk was a member in one of six teams to recreate the 1911 legendary race between pioneering explorers Roald Amundsen and Robert Falcon Scott across the largest ice cap in the world to the South Pole. His team, Danske Bank, finished the race in third position on the 24th of January!

However, this was about more than just the ultimate adventure and the finish line T-shirt. Christian visited Hospice Casa Sperantei in Brasov a few months ago and saw for himself how great the need for palliative care still is in Romania. He decided to turn the South Pole challenge into a fundraising appeal for Hospices of Hope.
To help us continue to make a difference in the lives of terminally ill adults and children in Eastern Europe YOU would not have to go that far. Simply sponsor Christian’s amazing achievement by visiting
We give Christian our heartfelt thanks for his incredible effort and dedication to our cause and send him our warmest congratulations on his success at the (rather chilly!) South Pole!

"Born and brought up in Norway. Extended short service commission in English Army. Worked in the city of London within Finance since 1986. Passionate about outdoor activities.
Enjoy taking part in charity events. My favourites are the 70 Wild Miles in Glencoe (triathlon) and the Rob Roy Challenge in the Trossachs, Scotland. Also a keen hill walker, "Monroe bagging" in Scotland or backpacking in the Brooks Range, Northern Alaska. Skiing is very much part of my upbringing as I grew up in Norway. Later on this was put to good use in my Army days, running the Regimental Ski Team. (Cross country & Biathalon). My most memorable "outing" was a canoe expedition on the Athabasca River, from Athabasca to Fort Macmurrey. You feel very far away from anywhere and the wilderness was intense.
The South Pole race offers an opportunity to help a charity I care a great deal for and also for me to do something unique outside my city life."
